This class and it's surroundings contain a lot of shady code, but as far as I can tell all of that code is unreachable (there is no code actually setting the value to eValueTypeVector).
According to history this class was introduced in 2012 in r167033/0665a0f09. At that time, the code seemed to serve some purpose, and it had two entry points (in Value::SetContext and ClangExpressionDeclMap::LookupDecl). The first entry point was deleted in D17897 and the second one in r179842/44342735.
The stated purpose of the patch introducing this class was to fix TestRegisters.py, and "expr $xmm0" in particular. Both of these things function perfectly well these days without this class.

In some cases when we have a DW_AT_const_value and the data can be found in the DWARFExpression then ValueObjectVariable does not handle it properly and we end up with an extracting data from value failed error.
The test is a very stripped down assembly file since reproducing this relies on the results of compiling with -O1 which may not be stable over time.

This is a refinement on 96601ec28b7efe5abf3479a1aa91bcedb235bbbd. The intent of that change was to do the same work for the computation of the locations of the children of ValueObjectVariable as was done for the root ValueObjectVariable. This original patch did that by moving the computation from ValueObjectVariable to ValueObject. That fixed the problem but caused a handful of swift-lldb testsuite failures and a crash or two.
The problem is that synthetic value objects can sometimes represent objects in target memory, and other times they might be made up wholly in lldb memory, with pointers from one synthetic object to another, and so the ValueObjectVariable computation was not appropriate.
This patch delegates the computation to the root of the ValueObject in question. That solves the problem for ValueObjectVariable while not messing up the computation for ValueObjectConstResult or ValueObjectSynthetic.

Summary: The only use of this class was to implement the SharedCluster of ValueObjects. However, the same functionality can be implemented using a regular std::shared_ptr, and its little-known "sub-object pointer" feature, where the pointer can point to one thing, but actually delete something else when it goes out of scope.
This patch reimplements SharedCluster using this feature -- SharedClusterPointer::GetObject now returns a std::shared_pointer which points to the ValueObject, but actually owns the whole cluster. The only change I needed to make here is that now the SharedCluster object needs to be created before the root ValueObject. This means that all private ValueObject constructors get a ClusterManager argument, and their static Create functions do the create-a-manager-and-pass-it-to-value-object dance.

Value::GetValueByteSize() reports the size of a Value as the size of its underlying CompilerType. However, a host buffer that backs a Value may be smaller than GetValueByteSize().
This situation arises when the host is only able to partially evaluate a Value, e.g. because the expression contains DW_OP_piece.
The cleanest fix I've found to this problem is Greg's suggestion, which is to resize the Value if (after evaluating an expression) it's found to be too small. I've tried several alternatives which all (in one way or the other) tried to teach the Value/ValueObjectChild system not to read past the end of a host buffer, but this was flaky and impractical as it isn't easy to figure out the host buffer's size (Value::GetScalar() can point to somewhere /inside/ a host buffer, but you need to walk up the ValueObject hierarchy to try and find its size).
This fixes an ASan error in lldb seen when debugging a clang binary. I've added a regression test in test/functionalities/optimized_code. The point of that test is not specifically to check that DW_OP_piece is handled a particular way, but rather to check that lldb doesn't crash on an input that it used to crash on.
Testing: check-lldb, and running the added tests using a sanitized lldb

Thanks to Jim for pointing out that an earlier version of this patch, which simply changed the definition of Value::GetValueByteSize(), would interact poorly with the ValueObject machinery.
Thanks also to Pavel who suggested a neat way to test this change (which, incidentally, caught another ASan issue still present in the original version of this patch).

Summary: A *.cpp file header in LLDB (and in LLDB) should like this: ``` //===-- TestUtilities.cpp -------------------------------------------------===// ``` However in LLDB most of our source files have arbitrary changes to this format and these changes are spreading through LLDB as folks usually just use the existing source files as templates for their new files (most notably the unnecessary editor language indicator `-*- C++ -*-` is spreading and in every review someone is pointing out that this is wrong, resulting in people pointing out that this is done in the same way in other files).
This patch removes most of these inconsistencies including the editor language indicators, all the different missing/additional '-' characters, files that center the file name, missing trailing `===//` (mostly caused by clang-format breaking the line).

Summary: This patch fixes a crash encountered when debugging optimized code. If some variable has been completely optimized out, but it's value is nonetheless known, the compiler can replace it with a DWARF expression computing its value. The evaluating these expressions results in a eValueTypeHostAddress Value object, as it's contents are computed into an lldb buffer. However, any value that is obtained by dereferencing pointers in this object should no longer have the "host" address type.
Lldb had code to account for this, but it was only present in the ValueObjectVariable class. This wasn't enough when the object being described was a struct, as then the object holding the actual pointer was a ValueObjectChild. This caused lldb to dereference the contained pointer in the context of the host process and crash.
Though I am not an expert on ValueObjects, it seems to me that this children address type logic should apply to all types of objects (and indeed, applying applying the same logic to ValueObjectChild fixes the crash). Therefore, I move this code to the base class, and arrange it to be run everytime the value is updated.
The test case is a reduced and simplified version of the original debug info triggering the crash. Originally we were dealing with a local variable, but as these require a running process to display, I changed it to use a global one instead.

We understand that people may be surprised that we're moving the header entirely to discuss the new license. We checked this carefully with the Foundation's lawyer and we believe this is the correct approach.
Essentially, all code in the project is now made available by the LLVM project under our new license, so you will see that the license headers include that license only. Some of our contributors have contributed code under our old license, and accordingly, we have retained a copy of our old license notice in the top-level files in each project and repository.

The code in LLDB assumes that CompilerType and friends use the size 0 as a sentinel value to signal an error. This works for C++, where no zero-sized type exists, but in many other programming languages (including I believe C) types of size zero are possible and even common. This is a particular pain point in swift-lldb, where extra code exists to double-check that a type is *really* of size zero and not an error at various locations.
To remedy this situation, this patch starts by converting CompilerType::getBitSize() and getByteSize() to return an optional result. To avoid wasting space, I hand-rolled my own optional data type assuming that no type is larger than what fits into 63 bits. Follow-up patches would make similar changes to the ValueObject hierarchy.
