1============================== 2LLVM Community Code of Conduct 3============================== 4 5The LLVM community has always worked to be a welcoming and respectful 6community, and we want to ensure that doesn't change as we grow and evolve. To 7that end, we have a few ground rules that we ask people to adhere to: 8 9* `be friendly and patient`_, 10* `be welcoming`_, 11* `be considerate`_, 12* `be respectful`_, 13* `be careful in the words that you choose and be kind to others`_, and 14* `when we disagree, try to understand why`_. 15 16This isn't an exhaustive list of things that you can't do. Rather, take it in 17the spirit in which it's intended - a guide to make it easier to communicate 18and participate in the community. 19 20This code of conduct applies to all spaces managed by the LLVM project or The 21LLVM Foundation. This includes IRC channels, mailing lists, bug trackers, LLVM 22events such as the developer meetings and socials, and any other forums created 23by the project that the community uses for communication. It applies to all of 24your communication and conduct in these spaces, including emails, chats, things 25you say, slides, videos, posters, signs, or even t-shirts you display in these 26spaces. In addition, violations of this code outside these spaces may, in rare 27cases, affect a person's ability to participate within them, when the conduct 28amounts to an egregious violation of this code. 29 30If you believe someone is violating the code of conduct, we ask that you report 31it by emailing [email protected]. For more details please see the 32:doc:`Reporting Guide <ReportingGuide>`. 33 34.. _be friendly and patient: 35 36* **Be friendly and patient.** 37 38.. _be welcoming: 39 40* **Be welcoming.** We strive to be a community that welcomes and supports 41 people of all backgrounds and identities. This includes, but is not limited 42 to members of any race, ethnicity, culture, national origin, colour, 43 immigration status, social and economic class, educational level, sex, sexual 44 orientation, gender identity and expression, age, size, family status, 45 political belief, religion or lack thereof, and mental and physical ability. 46 47.. _be considerate: 48 49* **Be considerate.** Your work will be used by other people, and you in turn 50 will depend on the work of others. Any decision you take will affect users 51 and colleagues, and you should take those consequences into account. Remember 52 that we're a world-wide community, so you might not be communicating in 53 someone else's primary language. 54 55.. _be respectful: 56 57* **Be respectful.** Not all of us will agree all the time, but disagreement is 58 no excuse for poor behavior and poor manners. We might all experience some 59 frustration now and then, but we cannot allow that frustration to turn into 60 a personal attack. It's important to remember that a community where people 61 feel uncomfortable or threatened is not a productive one. Members of the LLVM 62 community should be respectful when dealing with other members as well as 63 with people outside the LLVM community. 64 65.. _be careful in the words that you choose and be kind to others: 66 67* **Be careful in the words that you choose and be kind to others.** Do not 68 insult or put down other participants. Harassment and other exclusionary 69 behavior aren't acceptable. This includes, but is not limited to: 70 71 * Violent threats or language directed against another person. 72 * Discriminatory jokes and language. 73 * Posting sexually explicit or violent material. 74 * Posting (or threatening to post) other people's personally identifying 75 information ("doxing"). 76 * Personal insults, especially those using racist or sexist terms. 77 * Unwelcome sexual attention. 78 * Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behavior. 79 80 In general, if someone asks you to stop, then stop. Persisting in such 81 behavior after being asked to stop is considered harassment. 82 83.. _when we disagree, try to understand why: 84 85* **When we disagree, try to understand why.** Disagreements, both social and 86 technical, happen all the time and LLVM is no exception. It is important that 87 we resolve disagreements and differing views constructively. Remember that 88 we're different. The strength of LLVM comes from its varied community, people 89 from a wide range of backgrounds. Different people have different 90 perspectives on issues. Being unable to understand why someone holds 91 a viewpoint doesn't mean that they're wrong. Don't forget that it is human to 92 err and blaming each other doesn't get us anywhere. Instead, focus on helping 93 to resolve issues and learning from mistakes. 94 95Reporting 96========= 97 98If you believe someone is violating the code of conduct you can always report 99it to the LLVM Foundation Code of Conduct Committee by emailing 100[email protected]. All reports will be kept confidential. This isn't a public 101list and only members of the advisory committee will receive the report. For 102details on what to include in the report, please see the :doc:`Reporting Guide 103<ReportingGuide>`. 104 105If you believe anyone is in physical danger, please notify appropriate law 106enforcement first. If you are unsure what law enforcement agency is 107appropriate, please include this in your report and we will attempt to notify 108them. 109 110If the violation occurs at an event such as a Developer Meeting and requires 111immediate attention, you can also reach out to any of the event organizers or 112staff. Event organizers and staff will be prepared to handle the incident and 113able to help. If you cannot find one of the organizers, the venue staff can 114locate one for you. We will also post detailed contact information for specific 115events as part of each events' information. In person reports will still be 116kept confidential exactly as above, but also feel free to (anonymously if 117needed) email [email protected]. 118 119Code of Conduct Committee 120========================= 121 122The committee will consist of a mininum of 5 members and members are asked to 123serve at least a 1 year term.
