This ends up making the new binary to forget about the deprecated one, so when used in an older system it will not be able to resolve those codes to strings.

tools headers UAPI: Update tools's copy of kvm.h header
tldr; Just FYI, I'm carrying this on the perf tools tree.
Full explanation:
There used to be no copies, with tools/ code using kernel headers directly. From time to time tools/perf/ broke due to legitimate kernel hacking. At some point Linus complained about such direct usage. Then we adopted the current model.
The way these headers are used in perf are not restricted to just including them to compile something.
There are sometimes used in scripts that convert defines into string tables, etc, so some change may break one of these scripts, or new MSRs may use some different #define pattern, etc.
E.g.:
$ ls -1 tools/perf/trace/beauty/*.sh | head -5 tools/perf/trace/beauty/arch_errno_names.sh tools/perf/trace/beauty/drm_ioctl.sh tools/perf/trace/beauty/fadvise.sh tools/perf/trace/beauty/fsconfig.sh tools/perf/trace/beauty/fsmount.sh $ $ tools/perf/trace/beauty/fadvise.sh static const char *fadvise_advices[] = { [0] = "NORMAL", [1] = "RANDOM", [2] = "SEQUENTIAL", [3] = "WILLNEED", [4] = "DONTNEED", [5] = "NOREUSE", }; $
The tools/perf/check-headers.sh script, part of the tools/ build process, points out changes in the original files.
So its important not to touch the copies in tools/ when doing changes in the original kernel headers, that will be done later, when check-headers.sh inform about the change to the perf tools hackers.

KVM: x86: Remove the KVM_GET_NR_MMU_PAGES ioctl
The KVM_GET_NR_MMU_PAGES ioctl is quite questionable on 64-bit hosts since it fails to return the full 64 bits of the value that can be set with the corresponding KVM_SET_NR_MMU_PAGES call. Its "long" return value is truncated into an "int" in the kvm_arch_vm_ioctl() function.
Since this ioctl also never has been used by userspace applications (QEMU, Google's internal VMM, kvmtool and CrosVM have been checked), it's likely the best if we remove this badly designed ioctl before anybody really tries to use it.

That don't change functionality in tools/perf, as no new ioctl is added for the 'perf trace' scripts to harvest.

That just rebuilds perf, as these patches don't add any new KVM ioctl to be harvested for the the 'perf trace' ioctl syscall argument beautifiers.
This is also by now used by tools/testing/selftests/kvm/, a simple test build didn't succeed, but for another reason:
lib/kvm_util.c: In function ‘vm_enable_dirty_ring’: lib/kvm_util.c:125:30: error: ‘KVM_CAP_DIRTY_LOG_RING_ACQ_REL’ undeclared (first use in this function); did you mean ‘KVM_CAP_DIRTY_LOG_RING’? 125 | if (vm_check_cap(vm, KVM_CAP_DIRTY_LOG_RING_ACQ_REL)) | ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ | KVM_CAP_DIRTY_LOG_RING
I'll send a separate patch for that.

There are still references to the removed kvm_memory_region data structure but the doc and comments should mention struct kvm_userspace_memory_region instead, since that is what's used by the ioctl that replaced the old one and this data structure support the same set of flags.

That just rebuilds perf, as these patches add just an ioctl that is S390 specific and may clash with other arches, so are so far being excluded in the harvester script:

treewide: uapi: Replace zero-length arrays with flexible-array members
There is a regular need in the kernel to provide a way to declare having a dynamically sized set of trailing elements in a structure. Kernel code should always use “flexible array members”[1] for these cases. The older style of one-element or zero-length arrays should no longer be used[2].
This code was transformed with the help of Coccinelle: (linux-5.19-rc2$ spatch --jobs $(getconf _NPROCESSORS_ONLN) --sp-file script.cocci --include-headers --dir . > output.patch)
@@ identifier S, member, array; type T1, T2; @@
struct S { ... T1 member; T2 array[ - 0 ]; };
-fstrict-flex-arrays=3 is coming and we need to land these changes to prevent issues like these in the short future:
../fs/minix/dir.c:337:3: warning: 'strcpy' will always overflow; destination buffer has size 0, but the source string has length 2 (including NUL byte) [-Wfortify-source] strcpy(de3->name, "."); ^
Since these are all [0] to [] changes, the risk to UAPI is nearly zero. If this breaks anything, we can use a union with a new member name.
