The bucket expiry is the defacto expiry of the timer but it is not equal the timer expiry because of increasing granularity when bucket is in a higher level of the wheel. To be able to figure out in a trace whether a timer expired in time or not, the bucket expiry time is required as well.
Add bucket expiry time to the timer_start tracepoint and thereby simplify the arguments.

Change the code to use timespec64 internally to reduce the dependencies on timeval and associated helper functions.
Minor adjustments in the code are needed to make the native and compat version work the same way, and to keep the range check working after the conversion.

If a nohz_full CPU is looping in the kernel, the scheduling-clock tick might nevertheless remain disabled. In !PREEMPT kernels, this can prevent RCU's attempts to enlist the aid of that CPU's executions of cond_resched(), which can in turn result in an arbitrarily delayed grace period and thus an OOM. RCU therefore needs a way to enable a holdout nohz_full CPU's scheduler-clock interrupt.
This commit therefore provides a new TICK_DEP_BIT_RCU value which RCU can pass to tick_dep_set_cpu() and friends to force on the scheduler-clock interrupt for a specified CPU or task. In some cases, rcutorture needs to turn on the scheduler-clock tick, so this commit also exports the relevant symbols to GPL-licensed modules.

Timers are added to the timer wheel off by one. This is required in case a timer is queued directly before incrementing jiffies to prevent early timer expiry.
When reading a timer trace and relying only on the expiry time of the timer in the timer_start trace point and on the now in the timer_expiry_entry trace point, it seems that the timer fires late. With the current timer_expiry_entry trace point information only now=jiffies is printed but not the value of base->clk. This makes it impossible to draw a conclusion to the index of base->clk and makes it impossible to examine timer problems without additional trace points.
Therefore add the base->clk value to the timer_expire_entry trace point, to be able to calculate the index the timer base is located at during collecting expired timers.

Currently hrtimer callback functions are always executed in hard interrupt context. Users of hrtimers, which need their timer function to be executed in soft interrupt context, make use of tasklets to get the proper context.
Add additional hrtimer clock bases for timers which must expire in softirq context, so the detour via the tasklet can be avoided. This is also required for RT, where the majority of hrtimer is moved into softirq hrtimer context.
The selection of the expiry mode happens via a mode bit. Introduce HRTIMER_MODE_SOFT and the matching combinations with the ABS/REL/PINNED bits and update the decoding of hrtimer_mode in tracepoints.

HRTIMER_MODE_PINNED is not evaluated in the hrtimer_init() call, but for the sake of completeness print all given modes.

License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no license
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license.
By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2.
Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.
This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne.
How this work was done:
Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information,
Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords.
The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files.
The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines).
All documentation files were explicitly excluded.
The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply.
- when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied.
For non */uapi/* files that summary was:
SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139
and resulted in the first patch in this series.
If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was:

- if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary:

and that resulted in the third patch in this series.
- when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s).
- when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred.
- In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics).
- When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
- If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time.
In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related.
Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files.
In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier.
Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified.
These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches.

Decode the flags in the print out. Tools can retrieve the bits and their meaning from the trace format file.

Also convert itimers to use nsec based internal counters. This simplifies it and removes the whole game with error/inc_error which served to deal with cputime_t random granularity.

ktime is a union because the initial implementation stored the time in scalar nanoseconds on 64 bit machine and in a endianess optimized timespec variant for 32bit machines. The Y2038 cleanup removed the timespec variant and switched everything to scalar nanoseconds. The union remained, but become completely pointless.
Get rid of the union and just keep ktime_t as simple typedef of type s64.
The conversion was done with coccinelle and some manual mopping up.

User space tools have no idea how to parse "TICK_DEP_BIT_SCHED" or the other symbols used to do the bit shifting. The reason is that the conversion was done with using the TICK_DEP_MASK_* symbols which are just macros that convert to the BIT shift itself (with the exception of NONE, which was converted properly, because it doesn't use bits, and is defined as zero).
The TICK_DEP_BIT_* needs to be denoted by TRACE_DEFINE_ENUM() in order to have this properly converted for user space tools to parse this event.

Instead of storing a pointer to the per cpu tvec_base we can simply cache a CPU index in the timer_list and use that to get hold of the correct per cpu tvec_base. This is only used in lock_timer_base() and the slightly larger code is peanuts versus the spinlock operation and the d-cache foot print of the timer wheel.
Aside of that this allows to get rid of following nuisances:
- boot_tvec_base
That statically allocated 4k bss data is just kept around so the timer has a home when it gets statically initialized. It serves no other purpose.
With the CPU index we assign the timer to CPU0 at static initialization time and therefor can avoid the whole boot_tvec_base dance. That also simplifies the init code, which just can use the per cpu base.

- Overloading the base pointer with various flags
The CPU index has enough space to hold the flags (deferrable, irqsafe) so we can get rid of the extra masking and bit fiddling with the base pointer.
As a benefit we reduce the size of struct timer_list on 64 bit machines. 4 - 8 bytes, a size reduction up to 15% per struct timer_list, which is a real win as we have tons of them embedded in other structs.
This changes also the newly added deferrable printout of the timer start trace point to capture and print all timer->flags, which allows us to decode the target cpu of the timer as well.
We might have used bitfields for this, but that would change the static initializers and the init function for no value to accomodate big endian bitfields.
