Rename the configs as ARCH_HAS_PTDUMP and PTDUMP making it more clear and improve readability.

It took me some time to understand the purpose of the tricky code at the end of arch/x86/Kconfig.debug.
Without it, the following would be shown:
WARNING: unmet direct dependencies detected for FRAME_POINTER
because
81d387190039 ("x86/kconfig: Consolidate unwinders into multiple choice selection")
removed 'select ARCH_WANT_FRAME_POINTERS'.
The correct and more straightforward approach should have been to move it where 'select FRAME_POINTER' is located.
Several architectures properly handle the conditional selection of ARCH_WANT_FRAME_POINTERS. For example, 'config UNWINDER_FRAME_POINTER' in arch/arm/Kconfig.debug.

On most architectures, IRQ flag tracing is disabled in NMI context, and architectures need to define and select TRACE_IRQFLAGS_NMI_SUPPORT in order to enable this.
Commit:
859d069ee1ddd878 ("lockdep: Prepare for NMI IRQ state tracking")
Permitted IRQ flag tracing in NMI context, allowing lockdep to work in NMI context where an architecture had suitable entry logic. At the time, most architectures did not have such suitable entry logic, and this broke lockdep on such architectures. Thus, this was partially disabled in commit:
ed00495333ccc80f ("locking/lockdep: Fix TRACE_IRQFLAGS vs. NMIs")
... with architectures needing to select TRACE_IRQFLAGS_NMI_SUPPORT to enable IRQ flag tracing in NMI context.
Currently TRACE_IRQFLAGS_NMI_SUPPORT is defined under arch/x86/Kconfig.debug. Move it to arch/Kconfig so architectures can select it without having to provide their own definition.
Since the regular TRACE_IRQFLAGS_SUPPORT is selected by arch/x86/Kconfig, the select of TRACE_IRQFLAGS_NMI_SUPPORT is moved there too.
There should be no functional change as a result of this patch.

CONFIG_STACK_VALIDATION can now be considered to be frame-pointer specific. CONFIG_UNWINDER_ORC is already inherently valid for live patching, so no need to "validate" it.

In reaction to a proposal to introduce a memcpy_mcsafe_fast() implementation Linus points out that memcpy_mcsafe() is poorly named relative to communicating the scope of the interface. Specifically what addresses are valid to pass as source, destination, and what faults / exceptions are handled.
Of particular concern is that even though x86 might be able to handle the semantics of copy_mc_to_user() with its common copy_user_generic() implementation other archs likely need / want an explicit path for this case:

Replace a single top-level memcpy_mcsafe() with either copy_mc_to_user(), or copy_mc_to_kernel().
Introduce an x86 copy_mc_fragile() name as the rename for the low-level x86 implementation formerly named memcpy_mcsafe(). It is used as the slow / careful backend that is supplanted by a fast copy_mc_generic() in a follow-on patch.
One side-effect of this reorganization is that separating copy_mc_64.S to its own file means that perf no longer needs to track dependencies for its memcpy_64.S benchmarks.

Prior to commit:
859d069ee1dd ("lockdep: Prepare for NMI IRQ state tracking")
IRQ state tracking was disabled in NMIs due to nmi_enter() doing lockdep_off() -- with the obvious requirement that NMI entry call nmi_enter() before trace_hardirqs_off().
[ AFAICT, PowerPC and SH violate this order on their NMI entry ]
However, that commit explicitly changed lockdep_hardirqs_*() to ignore lockdep_off() and breaks every architecture that has irq-tracing in it's NMI entry that hasn't been fixed up (x86 being the only fixed one at this point).
The reason for this change is that by ignoring lockdep_off() we can:
- get rid of 'current->lockdep_recursion' in lockdep_assert_irqs*() which was going to to give header-recursion issues with the seqlock rework.
- allow these lockdep_assert_*() macros to function in NMI context.
Restore the previous state of things and allow an architecture to opt-in to the NMI IRQ tracking support, however instead of relying on lockdep_off(), rely on in_nmi(), both are part of nmi_enter() and so over-all entry ordering doesn't need to change.

Since commit 84af7a6194e4 ("checkpatch: kconfig: prefer 'help' over '---help---'"), the number of '---help---' has been gradually decreasing, but there are still more than 2400 instances.
This commit finishes the conversion. While I touched the lines, I also fixed the indentation.
There are a variety of indentation styles found.
a) 4 spaces + '---help---' b) 7 spaces + '---help---' c) 8 spaces + '---help---' d) 1 space + 1 tab + '---help---' e) 1 tab + '---help---' (correct indentation) f) 1 tab + 1 space + '---help---' g) 1 tab + 2 spaces + '---help---'
In order to convert all of them to 1 tab + 'help', I ran the following commend:
$ find . -name 'Kconfig*' | xargs sed -i 's/^[[:space:]]*---help---/\thelp/'

The 64-bit doublefault handler is much nicer than the 32-bit one. As a first step toward unifying them, make the 64-bit handler self-contained. This should have no effect no functional effect except in the odd case of x86_64 with CONFIG_DOUBLEFAULT=n in which case it will change the logging a bit.
This also gets rid of CONFIG_DOUBLEFAULT configurability on 64-bit kernels. It didn't do anything useful -- CONFIG_DOUBLEFAULT=n didn't actually disable doublefault handling on x86_64.

Commit 60a3cdd06394 ("x86: add optimized inlining") introduced CONFIG_OPTIMIZE_INLINING, but it has been available only for x86.
The idea is obviously arch-agnostic. This commit moves the config entry from arch/x86/Kconfig.debug to lib/Kconfig.debug so that all architectures can benefit from it.
This can make a huge difference in kernel image size especially when CONFIG_OPTIMIZE_FOR_SIZE is enabled.
For example, I got 3.5% smaller arm64 kernel for v5.1-rc1.

This also slightly improves the "Kernel hacking" Kconfig menu as e61aca5158a8 ("Merge branch 'kconfig-diet' from Dave Hansen') suggested; this config option would be a good fit in the "compiler option" menu.

Move the x86 EFI earlyprintk implementation to a shared location under drivers/firmware and tweak it slightly so we can expose it as an earlycon implementation (which is generic) rather than earlyprintk (which is only implemented for a few architectures)
This also involves switching to write-combine mappings by default (which is required on ARM since device mappings lack memory semantics, and so memcpy/memset may not be used on them), and adding support for shared memory framebuffers on cache coherent non-x86 systems (which do not tolerate mismatched attributes).
Note that 32-bit ARM does not populate its struct screen_info early enough for earlycon=efifb to work, so it is disabled there.

Move the source of lib/Kconfig.debug and arch/$(ARCH)/Kconfig.debug to the top-level Kconfig. For two architectures that means moving their arch-specific symbols in that menu into a new arch Kconfig.debug file, and for a few more creating a dummy file so that we can include it unconditionally.
Also move the actual 'Kernel hacking' menu to lib/Kconfig.debug, where it belongs.

Given the fact that the ACPI "EINJ" (error injection) facility is not universally available, implement software infrastructure to validate the memcpy_mcsafe() exception handling implementation.
For each potential read exception point in memcpy_mcsafe(), inject a emulated exception point at the address identified by 'mcsafe_inject' variable. With this infrastructure implement a test to validate that the 'bytes remaining' calculation is correct for a range of various source buffer alignments.
This code is compiled out by default. The CONFIG_MCSAFE_DEBUG configuration symbol needs to be manually enabled by editing Kconfig.debug. I.e. this functionality can not be accidentally enabled by a user / distro, it's only for development.
