um: mark rodata read-only and implement _nofault accesses
Mark read-only data actually read-only (simple mprotect), and to be able to test it also implement _nofault accesses. This works by setting up a new "segv_continue" pointer in current, and then when we hit a segfault we change the signal return context so that we continue at that address. The code using this sets it up so that it jumps to a label and then aborts the access that way, returning -EFAULT.
It's possible to optimize the ___backtrack_faulted() thing by using asm goto (compiler version dependent) and/or gcc's (not sure if clang has it) &&label extension, but at least in one attempt I made the && caused the compiler to not load -EFAULT into the register in case of jumping to the &&label from the fault handler. So leave it like this for now.

arch, mm: make releasing of memory to page allocator more explicit
The point where the memory is released from memblock to the buddy allocator is hidden inside arch-specific mem_init()s and the call to memblock_free_all() is needlessly duplicated in every artiste cure and after introduction of arch_mm_preinit() hook, mem_init() implementation on many architecture only contains the call to memblock_free_all().
Pull memblock_free_all() call into mm_core_init() and drop mem_init() on relevant architectures to make it more explicit where the free memory is released from memblock to the buddy allocator and to reduce code duplication in architecture specific code.

arch, mm: introduce arch_mm_preinit
Currently, implementation of mem_init() in every architecture consists of one or more of the following:
* initializations that must run before page allocator is active, for instance swiotlb_init() * a call to memblock_free_all() to release all the memory to the buddy allocator * initializations that must run after page allocator is ready and there is no arch-specific hook other than mem_init() for that, like for example register_page_bootmem_info() in x86 and sparc64 or simple setting of mem_init_done = 1 in several architectures * a bunch of semi-related stuff that apparently had no better place to live, for example a ton of BUILD_BUG_ON()s in parisc.
Introduce arch_mm_preinit() that will be the first thing called from mm_core_init(). On architectures that have initializations that must happen before the page allocator is ready, move those into arch_mm_preinit() along with the code that does not depend on ordering with page allocator setup.
On several architectures this results in reduction of mem_init() to a single call to memblock_free_all() that allows its consolidation next.

asm-generic: pgalloc: provide generic __pgd_{alloc,free}
We already have a generic implementation of alloc/free up to P4D level, as well as pgd_free(). Let's finish the work and add a generic PGD-level alloc helper as well.
Unlike at lower levels, almost all architectures need some specific magic at PGD level (typically initialising PGD entries), so introducing a generic pgd_alloc() isn't worth it. Instead we introduce two new helpers, __pgd_alloc() and __pgd_free(), and make use of them in the arch-specific pgd_alloc() and pgd_free() wherever possible. To accommodate as many arch as possible, __pgd_alloc() takes a page allocation order.
Because pagetable_alloc() allocates zeroed pages, explicit zeroing in pgd_alloc() becomes redundant and we can get rid of it. Some trivial implementations of pgd_free() also become unnecessary once __pgd_alloc() is used; remove them.
Another small improvement is consistent accounting of PGD pages by using GFP_PGTABLE_{USER,KERNEL} as appropriate.
Not all PGD allocations can be handled by the generic helpers. In particular, multiple architectures allocate PGDs from a kmem_cache, and those PGDs may not be page-sized.

um/mm: remove redundant assignment of max_low_pfn
Current calculation of max_low_pfn is introduced in commit af84eab20891 ("[PATCH] uml: fix LVM crash"). It is intended to set max_low_pfn to the same value as max_pfn.
But I am not sure why the max_pfn is set to totalram_pages, which represents the number of usable pages in system instead of an absolute page frame number. (The change history stops there.)
While we have already calculate it in setup_physmem(), so not necessary to do it again.
Also this would help changing totalram_pages accounting, since we plan to move the accounting into __free_pages_core(). With this change, totalram_pages may not represent the total usable pages at this point, since some pages would be deferred initialized.

UML: add support for KASAN under x86_64
Make KASAN run on User Mode Linux on x86_64.
The UML-specific KASAN initializer uses mmap to map the ~16TB of shadow memory to the location defined by KASAN_SHADOW_OFFSET. kasan_init() utilizes constructors to initialize KASAN before main().
The location of the KASAN shadow memory, starting at KASAN_SHADOW_OFFSET, can be configured using the KASAN_SHADOW_OFFSET option. The default location of this offset is 0x100000000000, which keeps it out-of-the-way even on UML setups with more "physical" memory.
For low-memory setups, 0x7fff8000 can be used instead, which fits in an immediate and is therefore faster, as suggested by Dmitry Vyukov. There is usually enough free space at this location; however, it is a config option so that it can be easily changed if needed.
Note that, unlike KASAN on other architectures, vmalloc allocations still use the shadow memory allocated upfront, rather than allocating and free-ing it per-vmalloc allocation.
If another architecture chooses to go down the same path, we should replace the checks for CONFIG_UML with something more generic, such as: - A CONFIG_KASAN_NO_SHADOW_ALLOC option, which architectures could set - or, a way of having architecture-specific versions of these vmalloc and module shadow memory allocation options.
Also note that, while UML supports both KASAN in inline mode (CONFIG_KASAN_INLINE) and static linking (CONFIG_STATIC_LINK), it does not support both at the same time.

memblock: rename memblock_free to memblock_phys_free
Since memblock_free() operates on a physical range, make its name reflect it and rename it to memblock_phys_free(), so it will be a logical counterpart to memblock_phys_alloc().
The callers are updated with the below semantic patch:
@@ expression addr; expression size; @@ - memblock_free(addr, size); + memblock_phys_free(addr, size);

asm-generic: pgalloc: provide generic pmd_alloc_one() and pmd_free_one()
For most architectures that support >2 levels of page tables, pmd_alloc_one() is a wrapper for __get_free_pages(), sometimes with __GFP_ZERO and sometimes followed by memset(0) instead.
More elaborate versions on arm64 and x86 account memory for the user page tables and call to pgtable_pmd_page_ctor() as the part of PMD page initialization.
Move the arm64 version to include/asm-generic/pgalloc.h and use the generic version on several architectures.
The pgtable_pmd_page_ctor() is a NOP when ARCH_ENABLE_SPLIT_PMD_PTLOCK is not enabled, so there is no functional change for most architectures except of the addition of __GFP_ACCOUNT for allocation of user page tables.
The pmd_free() is a wrapper for free_page() in all the cases, so no functional change here.

mm: free_area_init: use maximal zone PFNs rather than zone sizes
Currently, architectures that use free_area_init() to initialize memory map and node and zone structures need to calculate zone and hole sizes. We can use free_area_init_nodes() instead and let it detect the zone boundaries while the architectures will only have to supply the possible limits for the zones.

The UML port uses 4 and 5 level fixups to support higher level page table directories in the generic VM code.

um: switch to generic version of pte allocation
um allocates PTE pages with __get_free_page() and uses GFP_KERNEL | __GFP_ZERO for the allocations.
Switch it to the generic version that does exactly the same thing for the kernel page tables and adds __GFP_ACCOUNT for the user PTEs.
The pte_free() and pte_free_kernel() versions are identical to the generic ones and can be simply dropped.
