        <title>532dc62b - [OpaquePtrs][Clang] Add -no-opaque-pointers to tests (NFC)</title>
        <link>http://172.16.0.5:8080/history/llvm-project-15.0.7/clang/test/CodeGen/catch-alignment-assumption-builtin_assume_aligned-three-params-variable.cpp#532dc62b</link>
<description>[OpaquePtrs][Clang] Add -no-opaque-pointers to tests (NFC)This adds -no-opaque-pointers to clang tests whose output willchange when opaque pointers are enabled by default. This isintended to be part of the migration approach described inhttps://discourse.llvm.org/t/enabling-opaque-pointers-by-default/61322/9.The patch has been produced by replacing %clang_cc1 with%clang_cc1 -no-opaque-pointers for tests that fail with opaquepointers enabled. Worth noting that this doesn&apos;t cover all tests, there&apos;s a remaining ~40 tests not using %clang_cc1 that will needa followup change.Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D123115

<description>Reland [IR] Increase max alignment to 4GBCurrently the max alignment representable is 1GB, see D108661.Setting the align of an object to 4GB is desirable in some cases to make sure the lower 32 bits are clear which can be used for some optimizations, e.g. https://crbug.com/1016945.This uses an extra bit in instructions that carry an alignment. We can store 15 bits of &quot;free&quot; information, and with this change some instructions (e.g. AtomicCmpXchgInst) use 14 bits.We can increase the max alignment representable above 4GB (up to 2^62) since we&apos;re only using 33 of the 64 values, but I&apos;ve just limited it to 4GB for now.The one place we have to update the bitcode format is for the alloca instruction. It stores its alignment into 5 bits of a 32 bit bitfield. I&apos;ve added another field which is 8 bits and should be future proof for a while. For backward compatibility, we check if the old field has a value and use that, otherwise use the new field.Updating clang&apos;s max allowed alignment will come in a future patch.Reviewed By: hansDifferential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D110451

<title>564d85e0 - The maximal representable alignment in LLVM IR is 1GiB, not 512MiB</title>

<description>The maximal representable alignment in LLVM IR is 1GiB, not 512MiBIn LLVM IR, `AlignmentBitfieldElementT` is 5-bit wideBut that means that the maximal alignment exponent is `(1&lt;&lt;5)-2`,which is `30`, not `29`. And indeed, alignment of `1073741824`roundtrips IR serialization-deserialization.While this doesn&apos;t seem all that important, this doublesthe maximal supported alignment from 512MiB to 1GiB,and there&apos;s actually one noticeable use-case for that;On X86, the huge pages can have sizes of 2MiB and 1GiB (!).So while this doesn&apos;t add support for truly huge alignments, which i think we can easily-ish do if wanted, i think this addszero-cost support for a not-trivially-dismissable case.I don&apos;t believe we need any upgrade infrastructure, and since we don&apos;t explicitly record the IR version,we don&apos;t need to bump one either. As @craig.topper speculates in D108661#2963519,this might be an artificial limit imposed by the original implementationof the `getAlignment()` functions.Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D108661

<description>[test] Add {{.*}} to make ELF tests immune to dso_local/dso_preemptable/(none) differencesFor a default visibility external linkage definition, dso_local is set for ELF-fno-pic/-fpie and COFF and Mach-O. Since default clang -cc1 for ELF is similarto -fpic (&quot;PIC Level&quot; is not set), this nuance causes unneeded binary format differences. To make emitted IR similar, ELF -cc1 -fpic will default to -fno-semantic-interposition,which sets dso_local for default visibility external linkage definitions. To make this flip smooth and enable future (dso_local as definition default),this patch replaces (function) `define ` with `define{{.*}} `,(variable/constant/alias) `= ` with `={{.*}} `, or inserts appropriate `{{.*}} `.

<description>Reland [AssumeBundles] Use operand bundles to encode alignment assumptionsNOTE: There is a mailing list discussion on this: http://lists.llvm.org/pipermail/llvm-dev/2019-December/137632.htmlComplemantary to the assumption outliner prototype in D71692, this patchshows how we could simplify the code emitted for an alignemntassumption. The generated code is smaller, less fragile, and it makes iteasier to recognize the additional use as a &quot;assumption use&quot;.As mentioned in D71692 and on the mailing list, we could adopt thisscheme, and similar schemes for other patterns, without adopting theassumption outlining.

<description>Temporarily Revert &quot;[AssumeBundles] Use operand bundles to encode alignment assumptions&quot;due to the performance bugs filed in https://bugs.llvm.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46753.An SROA change soon may obviate some of these problems. This reverts commit 8d09f20798ac180b1749276bff364682ce0196ab.

<description>[AssumeBundles] Use operand bundles to encode alignment assumptionsSummary:NOTE: There is a mailing list discussion on this: http://lists.llvm.org/pipermail/llvm-dev/2019-December/137632.htmlComplemantary to the assumption outliner prototype in D71692, this patchshows how we could simplify the code emitted for an alignemntassumption. The generated code is smaller, less fragile, and it makes iteasier to recognize the additional use as a &quot;assumption use&quot;.As mentioned in D71692 and on the mailing list, we could adopt thisscheme, and similar schemes for other patterns, without adopting theassumption outlining.Reviewers: hfinkel, xbolva00, lebedev.ri, nikic, rjmccall, spatel, jdoerfert, sstefan1Reviewed By: jdoerfertSubscribers: thopre, yamauchi, kuter, fhahn, merge_guards_bot, hiraditya, bollu, rkruppe, cfe-commits, llvm-commitsTags: #clang, #llvmDifferential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D71739
