ALSA: hda: Allow the default preallocation for x86 againSince there are a few corner cases where the S/G buffer allocationisn't performed (e.g. depending on IOMMU implementations), it'd bebetter to allow the default buffer preallocation size for x86, too.The default for x86 is still kept to 0, as it should work in mostcases.Link: https://patch.msgid.link/20240907084129.28802-1-tiwai@suse.deSigned-off-by: Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.de>

ALSA: hda: Revert "ALSA: hda: Allow setting preallocation again for x86"This reverts commit f8e4ae10de43 ("ALSA: hda: Allow settingpreallocation again for x86").The reverted commit itself is a revert of c31427d0d21e ("ALSA: hda: Nopreallocation on x86 platforms"). It was needed because HDA allowed verybig allocations, up to 1GB per stream. However as previous commit inthis series changes maximum allowed allocation per stream to 4MB, we cansafely revert it back.On systems where there are a lot of FrontEnds, whenCONFIG_SND_HDA_PREALLOC_SIZE != 0 ALSA core allocates memory for eachFE, which may cause out of memory problems due to per card limit. Forceconfig to 0 on X86, so memory will be allocated on as needed basis.Bug: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=201251#c322Suggested-by: Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.de>Reviewed-by: Cezary Rojewski <cezary.rojewski@intel.com>Signed-off-by: Amadeusz Sławiński <amadeuszx.slawinski@linux.intel.com>Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20210318160618.2504068-4-amadeuszx.slawinski@linux.intel.comSigned-off-by: Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.de>

ALSA: hda: move Intel SoundWire ACPI scan to dedicated moduleThe ACPI scan capabilities is called from the intel-dspconfig as wellas the SOF/HDaudio drivers. This creates dependencies and randconfig issueswhen HDaudio and SOF/SoundWire are not all configured as modules. To simplify Kconfig dependencies between HDAudio, SoundWire, SOF andintel-dspconfig, move the ACPI scan helpers to a dedicatedmodule. This follows the same idea as NHLT helpers which are alreadyhandled as a dedicated module. The only functional change is that the kernel parameter to filterlinks is now handled by a different module, but that was only providedfor developers needing work-arounds for early BIOS releases.Reported-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de>Signed-off-by: Pierre-Louis Bossart <pierre-louis.bossart@linux.intel.com>Reviewed-by: Kai Vehmanen <kai.vehmanen@linux.intel.com>Reviewed-by: Guennadi Liakhovetski <guennadi.liakhovetski@linux.intel.com>Reviewed-by: Bard Liao <bard.liao@intel.com>Acked-by: Mark Brown <broonie@kernel.org>Acked-by: Vinod Koul <vkoul@kernel.org>Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20210302003125.1178419-7-pierre-louis.bossart@linux.intel.comSigned-off-by: Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.de>

ALSA: hda: intel-dsp-config: Add SND_INTEL_BYT_PREFER_SOF Kconfig optionThe kernel has 2 drivers for the Low Power Engine audio-block onBay- and Cherry-Trail SoCs. The old SST driver and the new SOFdriver. If both drivers are enabled then the kernel will defaultto using the old SST driver, unless told otherwise through thesnd_intel_dspcfg.dsp_driver module-parameter.Add a boolean SND_INTEL_BYT_PREFER_SOF Kconfig option, which when set to Ywill make the kernel default to the new SOF driver instead. The option defaults to n, preserving the current behavior.Making this configurable will help distributions such as Fedora:https://fedoraproject.org/w/index.php?title=Changes/SofDefaultForIntelLpeto test using SOF on BYT/CHT during the transition phase where wehave both drivers (eventually the old driver and this option willbe removed).Note that this drops the acpi_config_table[] containing 2 entries per ACPIhardware-id if both drivers are enabled. snd_intel_acpi_dsp_find_config()will always return the first hit, so we only need a single entry with theflags value set depending on the Kconfig settings.Suggested-by: Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.de>Signed-off-by: Hans de Goede <hdegoede@redhat.com>Reviewed-by: Pierre-Louis Bossart <pierre-louis.bossart@linux.intel.com>Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20210208135919.135600-1-hdegoede@redhat.comSigned-off-by: Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.de>

ALSA: hda: Allow setting preallocation again for x86The commit c31427d0d21e ("ALSA: hda: No preallocation on x86platforms") changed CONFIG_SND_HDA_PREALLOC_SIZE setup and its defaultto zero for x86, as the preallocation should work almost all cases. However, this expectation was too naive; some applications try toallocate as the max buffer size as possible, and it leads to thememory exhaustion. More badly, the commit changed the kconfig nolonger adjustable for x86, so you can't fix it statically (although itcan be still adjusted via procfs). So, practically seen, it's more recommended to set a reasonable limitfor x86, too. This patch follows to that experience, and changes thedefault to 2048 and allow the kconfig adjustable again.Fixes: c31427d0d21e ("ALSA: hda: No preallocation on x86 platforms")Cc: <stable@vger.kernel.org>BugLink: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=207223Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20200413201919.24241-1-tiwai@suse.deSigned-off-by: Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.de>

c31427d0 - ALSA: hda: No preallocation on x86 platforms

ALSA: hda: No preallocation on x86 platformsLike many other drivers, HD-audio drivers also do PCM bufferpreallocation to assure the buffer pages allocated at the early bootstage. This step is useful for platforms that may fail to allocatethe PCM hardware buffers -- which is mostly for either largecontinuous pages or with the specific DMA mask (like emu10k1).OTOH, when a buffer is allocated as SG-buffer and the DMA mask iseither 32 or 64 bits, the allocation almost never fails unless it hitsthe real OOM situation. In such a case, we don't need thepreallocation inevitably unlike the cases above. That said, we may drop the preallocation for HD-audio that doesallocate via SG-buffers, and the patch achieves it.However, there is one caveat: the buffer allocation behavior dependson CONFIG_SND_DMA_SGBUF, and it falls back to the continuous pageswhen it's not set. And, currently this SG buffer allocation isenabled only on x86 platforms. So, covering those fall-outs, thepatch adjusts CONFIG_SND_HDA_PREALLOC_SIZE depending on the condition, and keeps the old behavior as-is for non-x86 platforms. On x86, the kconfig item is no longer adjustable but always set tozero for disabling the preallocation. You can still enable thepreallocation via procfs interface at any time later, too.Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20200120124423.11862-2-tiwai@suse.deSigned-off-by: Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.de>

ALSA: hda: add Intel DSP configuration / probe codeFor distributions, we need one place where we can decidewhich driver will be activated for the auto-configation of theIntel's HDA hardware with DSP. Actually, we cover three drivers:* Legacy HDA* Intel SST* Intel Sound Open Firmware (SOF)All those drivers registers similar PCI IDs, so the firstdriver probed from the PCI stack can win. But... it is notguaranteed that the correct driver wins. This commit changes Intel's NHLT ACPI module to a commonDSP probe module for the Intel's hardware. All above sounddrivers calls this code. The user can force another behaviourusing the module parameter 'dsp_driver' located inthe 'snd-intel-dspcfg' module. This change allows to add specific dmi checks for the specificsystems.

ALSA: hda: Direct MMIO accessesHD-audio drivers access to the mmio registers indirectly via thecorresponding bus->io_ops callbacks. This is because some platform(notably Tegra SoC) requires the word-aligned access. But it's rathera rare case, and other platforms suffer from the penalties by indirectcalls unnecessarily. This patch is an attempt to optimize and cleanup for this situation. Now the special aligned access is used only when a new kconfigCONFIG_SND_HDA_ALIGNED_MMIO is set. And the HD-audio core itselfprovides the aligned MMIO access helpers instead of the driver side.If Kconfig isn't set (as default), the standard helpers like readl()or writel() are used directly.A couple of places in ASoC Intel drivers have the access via io_opsreg_writel(), and they are replaced with the direct writel() calls. And now with this patch, the whole bus->io_ops becomes empty, so it'sdropped completely. The bus initialization functions are changedaccordingly as well to drop the whole bus->io_ops.Reviewed-by: Pierre-Louis Bossart <pierre-louis.bossart@linux.intel.com>Signed-off-by: Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.de>

ALSA: hda: Make audio component support more genericThis is the final step for more generic support of DRM audiocomponent. The generic audio component code is now moved to its ownfile, and the symbols are renamed from snd_hac_i915_* tosnd_hdac_acomp_*, respectively. The generic code is enabled via thenew kconfig, CONFIG_SND_HDA_COMPONENT, while CONFIG_SND_HDA_I915 iskept as the super-class.Along with the split, three new callbacks are added to audio_ops:pin2port is for providing the conversion between the pin number andthe widget id, and master_bind/master_unbin are called at binding /unbinding the master component, respectively. All these are optional, but used in i915 implementation and also other later implementations.A note about the new snd_hdac_acomp_init() function: there is a slightdifference between this and the old snd_hdac_i915_init(). The latter(still) synchronizes with the master component binding, i.e. itassures that the relevant DRM component gets bound when it returns, orgives a negative error. Meanwhile the new function doesn'tsynchronize but just leaves as is. It's the responsibility by thecaller's side to synchronize, or the caller may accept theasynchronous binding on the fly.v1->v2: Fix missing NULL check in master_bind/unbindSigned-off-by: Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.de>

It could be removed if private _data changes to some core structure which can be extended to find the bus.- snd_hdac_get_display_clk() is added to get the display core clock for HSW/BDW.- haswell_set_bclk() is moved to hda_intel.c because it needs to write the controller registers EM4/EM5, and only legacy HD-A needs it for HSW/BDW.- Move definition of HSW/BDW-specific registers EM4/EM5 to hda_register.h and rename them to HSW_EM4/HSW_EM5, because other HD-A controllers have different layout for the extended mode registers.Signed-off-by: Mengdong Lin <mengdong.lin@intel.com>Signed-off-by: Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.de>

4d75faa0 - ALSA: hda - Add regmap support

ALSA: hda - Add regmap supportThis patch adds an infrastructure to support regmap-based verbaccesses. Because o the asymmetric nature of HD-audio verbs, especially the amp verbs, we need to translate the verbs as a sort ofpseudo registers to be mapped uniquely in regmap. In this patch, a pseudo register is built from the NID, theAC_VERB_GET_* and 8bit parameters, i.e. almost in the form to be sentto HD-audio bus but without codec address field. OTOH, for writing, the same pseudo register is translated to AC_VERB_SET_* automatically. The AC_VERB_SET_AMP_* verb is re-encoded from the correspondingAC_VERB_GET_AMP_* verb and parameter at writing. Some verbs has a single command for read but multiple for writes. Awrite for such a verb is split automatically to multiple verbs. The patch provides also a few handy helper functions. They aredesigned to be accessible even without regmap. When no regmap is setup (e.g. before the codec device instantiation), the direct hardwareaccess is used. Also, it tries to avoid the unnecessary power-up.The power up/down sequence is performed only on demand. The codec driver needs to call snd_hdac_regmap_exit() andsnd_hdac_regmap_exit() at probe and remove if it wants the regmapaccess. There is one flag added to hdac_device. When the flag lazy_cache isset, regmap helper ignores a write for a suspended device and returnsas if it was actually written. It reduces the hardware access prettymuch, e.g. when adjusting the mixer volume while in idle. Thisassumes that the driver will sync the cache later at resume properly,so use it carefully.Signed-off-by: Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.de>

ALSA: hda - Make snd_hda_bus_type publicDefine the common hd-audio driver and device types to bind oversnd_hda_bus_type publicly. This allows to implement other type ofdevice and driver code over hd-audio bus.Now both struct hda_codec and struct hda_codec_driver inherit thesenew struct hdac_device and struct hdac_driver, respectively. The bus registration is done in subsys_initcall() to assure itbefore any other driver registrations.Signed-off-by: Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.de>
