kbuild: trace functions in subdirectories of lib/ccflags-remove-$(CONFIG_FUNCTION_TRACER) += $(CC_FLAGS_FTRACE)exists here in sub-directories of lib/ to keep the behavior ofcommit 2464a609ded0 ("ftrace: do not trace library functions").Since that commit, not only the objects in lib/ but also the ones inthe sub-directories are excluded from ftrace (although the commitdescription did not explicitly mention this). However, most of library functions in sub-directories are not so hot.Re-add them to ftrace.Going forward, only the objects right under lib/ will be excluded.Cc: Ingo Molnar <mingo@kernel.org>Signed-off-by: Masahiro Yamada <masahiroy@kernel.org>Acked-by: Steven Rostedt (VMware) <rostedt@goodmis.org>

15d5761a - kbuild: introduce ccflags-remove-y and asflags-remove-y

kbuild: introduce ccflags-remove-y and asflags-remove-yCFLAGS_REMOVE_<file>.o filters out flags when compiling a particularobject, but there is no convenient way to do that for every object ina directory.Add ccflags-remove-y and asflags-remove-y to make it easily.Use ccflags-remove-y to clean up some Makefiles. The add/remove order works as follows: [1] KBUILD_CFLAGS specifies compiler flags used globally [2] ccflags-y adds compiler flags for all objects in the current Makefile [3] ccflags-remove-y removes compiler flags for all objects in the current Makefile (New feature) [4] CFLAGS_<file> adds compiler flags per file. [5] CFLAGS_REMOVE_<file> removes compiler flags per file.Having [3] before [4] allows us to remove flags from most (but not all)objects in the current Makefile. For example, kernel/trace/Makefile removes $(CC_FLAGS_FTRACE)from all objects in the directory, then adds it back totrace_selftest_dynamic.o and CFLAGS_trace_kprobe_selftest.oThe same applies to lib/livepatch/Makefile.Please note ccflags-remove-y has no effect to the sub-directories.In contrast, the previous notation got rid of compiler flags also fromall the sub-directories.The following are not affected because they have no sub-directories: arch/arm/boot/compressed/ arch/powerpc/xmon/ arch/sh/ kernel/trace/However, lib/ has several sub-directories.To keep the behavior, I added ccflags-remove-y to all Makefilesin subdirectories of lib/, except the following: lib/vdso/Makefile - Kbuild does not descend into this Makefile lib/raid/test/Makefile - This is not used for the kernel buildI think commit 2464a609ded0 ("ftrace: do not trace library functions")excluded too much. In the next commit, I will remove ccflags-remove-yfrom the sub-directories of lib/.Suggested-by: Sami Tolvanen <samitolvanen@google.com>Signed-off-by: Masahiro Yamada <masahiroy@kernel.org>Acked-by: Steven Rostedt (VMware) <rostedt@goodmis.org>Acked-by: Michael Ellerman <mpe@ellerman.id.au> (powerpc)Acked-by: Brendan Higgins <brendanhiggins@google.com> (KUnit)Tested-by: Anders Roxell <anders.roxell@linaro.org>

4f3865fb - [PATCH] zlib_inflate: Upgrade library code to a recent version

[PATCH] zlib_inflate: Upgrade library code to a recent versionUpgrade the zlib_inflate implementation in the kernel from a patchedversion 1.1.3/4 to a patched 1.2.3.The code in the kernel is about seven years old and I noticed that theexternal zlib library's inflate performance was significantly faster (~50%)than the code in the kernel on ARM (and faster again on x86_32).For comparison the newer deflate code is 20% slower on ARM and 50% sloweron x86_32 but gives an approx 1% compression ratio improvement. I don'tconsider this to be an improvement for kernel use so have no plans tochange the zlib_deflate code.Various changes have been made to the zlib code in the kernel, the mostsignificant being the extra functions/flush option used by ppp_deflate.This update reimplements the features PPP needs to ensure it continues towork. This code has been tested on ARM under both JFFS2 (with zlib compressionenabled) and ppp_deflate and on x86_32. JFFS2 sees an approx. 10% realworld file read speed improvement. This patch also removes ZLIB_VERSION as it no longer has a correct value. We don't need version checks anyway as the kernel's module handling willtake care of that for us. This removal is also more in keeping with thezlib author's wishes (http://www.zlib.net/zlib_faq.html#faq24) and I'veadded something to the zlib.h header to note its a modified version.Signed-off-by: Richard Purdie <rpurdie@rpsys.net>Acked-by: Joern Engel <joern@wh.fh-wedel.de>Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org>Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>

Linux-2.6.12-rc2Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" gitarchive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the earlygit days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of goodinfrastructure for it.Let it rip!
