um: Include missing headers in asm/pgtable.hFormerly, asm/pgtable.h relied on the implicit inclusion of asm/page.hand linux/mm_types.h via asm/fixmap.h.

um: refactor TLB update handlingConceptually, we want the memory mappings to always be up to date andrepresent whatever is in the TLB. To ensure that, we need to sync themover in the userspace case and for the kernel we need to process themappings.The kernel will call flush_tlb_* if page table entries that were validbefore become invalid. Unfortunately, this is not the case if entriesare added.As such, change both flush_tlb_* and set_ptes to track the memory rangethat has to be synchronized. For the kernel, we need to execute aflush_tlb_kern_* immediately but we can wait for the first page fault incase of set_ptes. For userspace in contrast we only store that a rangeof memory needs to be synced and do so whenever we switch to thatprocess.Signed-off-by: Benjamin Berg <benjamin.berg@intel.com>Link: https://patch.msgid.link/20240703134536.1161108-13-benjamin@sipsolutions.netSigned-off-by: Johannes Berg <johannes.berg@intel.com>

2f0584f3 - mm: Rename arch pte_mkwrite()'s to pte_mkwrite_novma()

mm: Rename arch pte_mkwrite()'s to pte_mkwrite_novma()The x86 Shadow stack feature includes a new type of memory called shadowstack. This shadow stack memory has some unusual properties, which requiressome core mm changes to function properly.One of these unusual properties is that shadow stack memory is writable,but only in limited ways. These limits are applied via a specific PTEbit combination. Nevertheless, the memory is writable, and core mm codewill need to apply the writable permissions in the typical paths thatcall pte_mkwrite(). The goal is to make pte_mkwrite() take a VMA, sothat the x86 implementation of it can know whether to create regularwritable or shadow stack mappings.But there are a couple of challenges to this. Modifying the signatures ofeach arch pte_mkwrite() implementation would be error prone because someare generated with macros and would need to be re-implemented. Also, somepte_mkwrite() callers operate on kernel memory without a VMA.So this can be done in a three step process. First pte_mkwrite() can berenamed to pte_mkwrite_novma() in each arch, with a generic pte_mkwrite()added that just calls pte_mkwrite_novma(). Next callers without a VMA canbe moved to pte_mkwrite_novma(). And lastly, pte_mkwrite() and all callerscan be changed to take/pass a VMA.Start the process by renaming pte_mkwrite() to pte_mkwrite_novma() andadding the pte_mkwrite() wrapper in linux/pgtable.h. Apply the samepattern for pmd_mkwrite(). Since not all archs have a pmd_mkwrite_novma(),create a new arch config HAS_HUGE_PAGE that can be used to tell ifpmd_mkwrite() should be defined. Otherwise in the !HAS_HUGE_PAGE cases thecompiler would not be able to find pmd_mkwrite_novma().No functional change.Suggested-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linuxfoundation.org>Signed-off-by: Rick Edgecombe <rick.p.edgecombe@intel.com>Signed-off-by: Dave Hansen <dave.hansen@linux.intel.com>Reviewed-by: Mike Rapoport (IBM) <rppt@kernel.org>Acked-by: Geert Uytterhoeven <geert@linux-m68k.org>Acked-by: David Hildenbrand <david@redhat.com>Link: https://lore.kernel.org/lkml/CAHk-=wiZjSu7c9sFYZb3q04108stgHff2wfbokGCCgW7riz+8Q@mail.gmail.com/Link: https://lore.kernel.org/all/20230613001108.3040476-2-rick.p.edgecombe%40intel.com

arch: Add pmd_pfn() where it is missingWe need to use this function in common code, so define it forarchitectures and/or configrations that miss it. The result ofpmd_pfn() will only be used if TRANSPARENT_HUGEPAGE is enabled,but a function or macro called pmd_pfn() must be defined, evenon machines with two level page tables.Signed-off-by: Mike Rapoport <rppt@linux.ibm.com>Signed-off-by: Matthew Wilcox (Oracle) <willy@infradead.org>

Revert "um: support some of ARCH_HAS_SET_MEMORY"This reverts commit 963285b0b47a ("um: support some ofARCH_HAS_SET_MEMORY"), as it turns out that it's not only notworking (due to um never using the protection bits in thepage tables) but also corrupts the page tables if used on anon-vmalloc page, since um never allocates proper page tablesfor the 'physmem' in the first place.Fixing all this will take more effort, so for now revert it.Reported-by: Benjamin Berg <benjamin@sipsolutions.net>Fixes: 963285b0b47a ("um: support some of ARCH_HAS_SET_MEMORY")Signed-off-by: Johannes Berg <johannes.berg@intel.com>Signed-off-by: Richard Weinberger <richard@nod.at>

974b9b2c - mm: consolidate pte_index() and pte_offset_*() definitions

mm: consolidate pte_index() and pte_offset_*() definitionsAll architectures define pte_index() as	(address >> PAGE_SHIFT) & (PTRS_PER_PTE - 1)and all architectures define pte_offset_kernel() as an entry in the arrayof PTEs indexed by the pte_index().For the most architectures the pte_offset_kernel() implementation relieson the availability of pmd_page_vaddr() that converts a PMD entry value tothe virtual address of the page containing PTEs array.Let's move x86 definitions of the PTE accessors to the generic place in<linux/pgtable.h> and then simply drop the respective definitions from theother architectures.The architectures that didn't provide pmd_page_vaddr() are updated to havethat defined.The generic implementation of pte_offset_kernel() can be overridden by anarchitecture and alpha makes use of this because it has special orderingrequirements for its version of pte_offset_kernel().[rppt@linux.ibm.com: v2] Link: http://lkml.kernel.org/r/20200514170327.31389-11-rppt@kernel.org[rppt@linux.ibm.com: update] Link: http://lkml.kernel.org/r/20200514170327.31389-12-rppt@kernel.org[rppt@linux.ibm.com: update] Link: http://lkml.kernel.org/r/20200514170327.31389-13-rppt@kernel.org[akpm@linux-foundation.org: fix x86 warning][sfr@canb.auug.org.au: fix powerpc build] Link: http://lkml.kernel.org/r/20200607153443.GB738695@linux.ibm.comSigned-off-by: Mike Rapoport <rppt@linux.ibm.com>Signed-off-by: Stephen Rothwell <sfr@canb.auug.org.au>Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org>Cc: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de>Cc: Borislav Petkov <bp@alien8.de>Cc: Brian Cain <bcain@codeaurora.org>Cc: Catalin Marinas <catalin.marinas@arm.com>Cc: Chris Zankel <chris@zankel.net>Cc: "David S.
